Asbestos Systems
Asbestos is formed in fibre bundles and when disturbed the fibre bundles become progressively finer. The small fibres are invisible to the naked eye and when inhaled penetrate the deepest part of the lungs (respirable fibres). Breathing in asbestos fibres brings a risk of asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.
Some 4,500 building products are known to have contained asbestos and if a building was built pre 1987 it is common to find asbestos in its structure. Areas in which asbestos can be found include: wall sheeting in bathrooms, laundries and toilets, vinyl floor tiles, fibro, fencing, roofing, cladding, imitation brick veneer, electrical meter boxes, insulation, lino floors and underlays to name but a few.
